The monumental PINK FLOYD opera “The Wall”

performed live in Milan on July 3, 2011

by Roger Waters

a brief reportage for an impressive event !

with friends and Betty, we arrived just in early afternoon some hours before the concert

(from left, Nino The Second, me, Defender and Henry)

Betty is waiting calmly, me and Nino The Second are not in the skin …

Defender is excited and is waiting impatient to enter

Three hours before the concert we’ re inside, the stage transmits feelings of days gone :

Pink Floyd “ The Wall”, have passed over thirty years and I was only a little boy!

Just two hours before starting concert : SOLD OUT !

At 21:00 the show starts, “In The Flesh” , we almost have a heart attack, the music is everywhere,

stunning sound and light effects ! (click on image above)

“Another brick in the wall pt. 2”,  the audience explodes, it is the anthem for

generation of rebellion against the system!  (click on image)

“ Mother “, another fantastic song :

… mother should I trust the government?..

In Italian on the wall the writing answer was “ COL CAZZO!”

“Goodby blue sky” and  “Empty Spaces” (click on image)

“Young Lust” an indictment of the rampant consumerism (click on image)

from beginning of the concert will continue to build The Wall,

just ten minutes for interval the work is almost completed, now the band is

not longer visible, hidden behind the wall, Roger takes the stage alone

“One of my turns” and “Don’t leave me now” (click on image)

“Goodbye cruel world” close the first part of the show : The Wall is now completed !

During the interval, on the wall were projected images of war dead (past and recent)

among these I was able to capture in a moment, on the corner, the one of

ERIC FLETCHER WATERS, Roger’s father, dead in Anzio (Italy), during the Second World Word, when Roger was a little child.

The lack of the father sign his life and was of ispiration to create The Wall concept album with Pink Floyd

“Vera” and “Bring the Boys at Home” a moment that broke the audience heart : totally in silence,

with tears in eyes, all to watch the raw images projected on the wall of children suffering for war

Now is the moment of “Comfortably Numb” one of the best song of The Wall album

Astonishing lights effects! (click on image above and watch all video!)

Is time for the final part of the concert, a big Pig is flying over the audience , representation of

the world’s strongest powers (click on pig image)

Is time for “Waiting for the worms”, fantastic moment with original and legendary 1979 Gerald Scarfe animations!

“ The Trial” is the final event, the closing album song.

Original animation from “The Wall”  movie (1980), unforgettable Alan Parker masterpiece

A final explosion and The Wall falls down, representation of collapse of modern society

that clears man of  personality, enclosing him between barriers

…the poor are more and more poor, the rich are always more rich….

This is not the world we dream

The band : second from right is Jon Carin, Pink Floyd keyboard player from 1986, third always from right is

Harry Waters, Roger’s son and second from left in Snowy White, Pink Floyd guitarist with David Gilmour during

1976-1980 period (he played with Thin Lizzy too)

thank you Roger for the great emotion
